Admissions Policies
The policies below apply to admitted and enrolling students in either the MS in Data Science or the MBA program.
Admission Deferral Policy
This policy applies to admitted applicants in either program, for either MBA format, who have not yet started classes.
Requesting a Deferral
An admitted applicant may request to defer enrollment to the next occurring term for the same program and format to which they were admitted. A deferral request must be submitted in writing to the Office of Admissions no later than 30 days before the start date of the term to which admission was originally granted.
Only one deferral is granted per admission cycle. An applicant who does not enroll in the deferred term must submit a new application.
What Carries Over
A deferred applicant is not required to resubmit application materials or reapply. Any enrollment deposit already paid carries over to the deferred term.
An English proficiency test score that expires under its normal validity window before the deferred term begins must be refreshed; see English Proficiency Requirements.
What Does Not Change
Tuition and fees for the deferred term are the rates in effect for that term, not the rates in effect at the time of the original admission decision. See Tuition and Fees for current rates.
Transfer Credit Policy
Both programs accept a limited amount of transfer credit from prior graduate coursework. The rules differ by program.
MS in Data Science
- Up to 6 credit hours may transfer in.
- Coursework must be graduate-level, completed at a regionally accredited institution, with a grade of B or better.
- Coursework must have been completed within five years of the student's MS in Data Science enrollment term.
- Approval is granted by the program director.
- Transfer credit applies to elective requirements only. It does not satisfy core course requirements.
MBA
- Up to 9 credit hours may transfer in.
- Coursework must be graduate business coursework, completed at an AACSB-accredited institution or an equivalent recognized accrediting body, with a grade of B or better.
- Coursework must have been completed within five years of the student's MBA enrollment term.
- Approval is granted by the associate dean.
- Transfer credit applies to elective concentration requirements only. It does not satisfy core course requirements.
Common to Both Programs
- Transfer credit requests are submitted during the student's first term of enrollment, using the official transcript already on file from the application.
- Approved transfer credit reduces the number of courses a student needs to take. It does not reduce tuition or fees owed; see Tuition and Fees.
